Write an essay to justify the claim that those who put efforts to solve challenges normally encounter problems, basing your argument on the Samaritan by John Lara.

Sometimes, individuals go out of their way to salvage themselves from the grasp of undesirable circumstances. In the process, they face opposition and danger, which complicate their lives even further.

Ms. Nicole sets out to help and encourage the two young innovators Alvita and Montano and ends up endangering her life. The two are worried because the mayor had given Nicole an ultimatum during closing day. They fear that the madam could get into trouble for supporting them (p49). The two are afraid because the app had not been launched. Once Ms. Nicole had realized that people of Maracas were like the Jewish man, she decided to begin a journey to help restore the society. The Samaritan inspires her because just like in the Biblical story they are beaten, stripped, robbed and left for dead. The leaders do not help. She believes that it is her responsibility to stop them. Even in the face of opposition from the municipal leadership, she believes that The Samaritan is a platform for the downtrodden to be there for each other. She would continue speaking against the wrongs in the municipality. The madam is very selfless in her pursuit against corruption. She believes that everybody must do the right things in the right way and take responsibility for the progress of the municipality (p52). Even if the leaders slammed it, she believed it would change the course of history. Montano observes that the Ms. Nicole could be in grave danger but she asserts that whatever is done to her does not matter. Her only desire is to stand for a cause that could bring a better tomorrow. Alvita even fears that Ms. Nicole could be transferred. She is driven by the belief that people must strive to improve their lives and not give up in the face of obstacles. She advises the students to stand firm with the App and demand that the leaders do the right thing. He further urges them not to be discouraged or afraid. The problems that she encountered only served to strengthen her resolve to do the right thing.

When Ms. Nicole insists on supporting the Samaritan, she ends up being arrested. Bembe arrests her and charges her with disobeying authorities (p100) and stealing the school generator. Sadly, he refuses to tell her what she is accused of. This brings a lot of mental torture to her. (p93). She admits to talking with the mayor the previous day but refusing to yield to his demands. Bembe confesses that the app that the madam is in support of could destroy the lives of the leaders. Since it was threatening the lives of many powerful people, they would destroy the madam’s life (p94). He said that he was giving her a chance to secure her life. He confirms that the madam is ready to fight. He begins the fight by telling Nicole that her phone was once located at the scene of a murder. She stands her ground despite the threats. He later handcuffs her. He drags her on the floor. The scary thing happens when Bembe says that when he is involved in an arrest personally, it is as serious as death. He bangs the table in anger and hits her on the face with a bunch of papers. (p97). Even when he threatens her to force the students to shut down the app, she remains adamant.  She is arrested and dragged out of the office. Were it not for the solidarity of the people, she could have faced a horrible ordeal. All the pain that Nicole suffers is because she desires to solve the biggest problem facing the society – corruption.

Ms. Nicole, Alvita and Montano pit themselves against the corrupt political leaders when they intend to launch an app that threatens to solve corruption and expose their evils. They therefore put themselves in mortal danger. Ramdaye calls Mossi a master schemer and go getter because of his propensity to commit sly selfish actions against his opponents. This means that those who intend to go against him would face serious consequences. It is evident that the mayor’s evil deeds are glaring. He even offers to bribe Nicole and the students(P61), telling her to quote whatever price she wants. Ms. Nicole’s firmness is evident when she expresses her utter disappointment in the man entrusted with the municipal affairs trying to bribe her. She insists she will never be part of corruption schemes. He is ashamed and tries to finagle an excuse for the many ills that happen in the municipality. Eventually, he realizes that Ms. Nicole is very serious about her stand and cannot bulge. He therefore gets very agitated and calls her explanations a cock and bull story (pg73). He throws his card at her and begins talking to her in a condescending manner. He gives her instructions, citing his rank and insists that she must delete every post that reveals his corrupt activities. He believes the app is damaging his reputation and undermining the whole administration in the municipality. He insists that such cannot continue. He commands the madam to call her when she has begun deleting damaging information about him. He threatens her that he will stop at nothing. The two students have mental torture, seeing how their teacher is treated. They remain worried that something wrong would happen to her. The two are worried because the mayor had given Nicole an ultimatum during closing day. They fear that the madam could get into trouble for supporting them (p49). When the trio unleashes the app, their lives are constantly plagued by danger and uncertainty.
