Act IV Scene II Summary

It is Wednesday morning and Justice Jaden has called Mr. Basdeo and company, and Mayor Mossi and his team for a candid talk at his Chambers, a talk whose aim is to help save themselves from the danger posed by The Samaritan. In order for them to seek a binding solution, Justice Jaden asks them to agree on the exact problem that they are facing.

The leaders, however, have varied opinions on their common problem: Mayor Mossi claims it is an attempt to remove him from office; Hon. Seymour, Mayor Mossi's refusal to allow a reallocation of budget; Mr. Harvester, The Samaritan, Justice Jaden, the risk of them being prosecuted. Hon. Seymour insists that there is no other way of escaping prosecution other than getting money to fight their way out lest they land in Bancta Express (prison), but Mayor Mossi makes it clear that he will never buy the idea of getting them money from the Municipal Coffers.

Justice Jaden informs the leaders that the public is fighting them, and the people are keen on holding each one of them to account. He adds that The Judiciary and the Minister for Local government are very concerned about the developments in their Municipality. and that he got information that the Chief Justice is thinking about taking action on the legal issues associated with The Samaritan, He however, tells the leaders that the situation can be saved if they either allow him to initiate a friendly prosecution identify the crimes they will be accused of, then get friendly people and pay them to lodge cases against them, or they temporarily halt the use of The Samaritan by having someone lodge a case and argue the App is infringing on the right to privacy. This latter idea is, however, perilous since, according to Mr. Harvester, it will be challenged on the basis of the right to information.

Hon. Basdeo proposes that they could talk to the Ethics and Innovation Teacher (Nicole) and, although Mayor Mossi insists that she is stubborn, Basdeo believes she could be won by being given some powerful position in The Municipal Council leadership since everyone wants power. The leaders unanimously agree to play power politics and in Justice Jaden's belief that their presence, all of them together as the leaders of the Municipality, may have a helpful impression on Nicole, they decide to head for her school aiming to arrive there at lunch break to avoid interfering with learning in the school. Jaden agrees to be the leaders' spokesperson.
