Act IV Scene III Summary

It is Wednesday, lunch hour at Sagrada Secondary School the Principal's boardroom. Narine has summoned Nicole as she is anticipating a meeting of all Municipal Council leaders and her (Nicole). The Principal blasts her for being headstrong and stubborn and tells her that she is completely fed up with being nagged by the Council leaders because of her and The Samaritan.

She rebukes her for ignoring her advice to put the App's activities to a halt, adding that the App will not change anything. She warns her that if she doesn't think of a way out of The Samaritan circus, then she will have no choice but to do away with her. After the Mayor and the rest of the Municipal Council leaders arrive, Narine introduces them to Nicole and leaves. Justice Jaden apologizes to Nicole for the intrusion into her busy schedule, while Inspector Bembe and Mayor Mossi tender their apologies for treading on her toes. Nicole, however, tells the leaders that there was never anything personal in the matter of The Samaritan, informing them that it was just a school project by two of her students.

As the Municipal Council leader's spokesperson, Justice Jaden informs Nicole that the leaders had a very long discussion, as the top leadership of the Municipality. and that after due deliberations, they agreed to consult her about the possible changes they need to effect to secure a good future for the Municipality. With Jaden asked her about the role she would prefer to play in a new order, Nicole says she is ready to work with patriotic citizens to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of public affairs. Mayor Mossi emphasizes that the Municipality wants to change a change in which public resources will no longer be stolen, in which justice will be served and not reserved for the rich, in which the police will stand with the innocent, not with the crooks and the lawbreakers and in which lawmakers will protect and promote the public interest rather than looking after their own interests.

Nicole tells Mayor Mossi (and the leaders in entirety) that the change they desire cannot be achieved through contracts, or new offices (that they want to give her) or laws, but that it can only come from within them. She tells them it will take a change of heart; a change of spirit that resists - the spirit of the Beast-- achieve this end. She compares their Municipality to the Biblical valley of dry bones and expresses optimism that it will be restored to life but only when they abandon their evil ways and turn to their Creator.

In the meantime, Alvita and Montano interrupt Nicole and the Municipal Council leaders' meeting and announce to her that many police officers are coming their way and implore her that they give up on The Samaritan to save her from arrest.

Narine enters and introduces Tajo, head of the Nationa! Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau. He informs the Council leaders that he is under instructions to escort all of them to the headquarters of the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau for clarification on a variety of issues. A commotion follows as other police officers walk in. All, except Nicole, Montano and Alvita, are handcuffed and led outside. It is a relief for Nicole and her two young students, and Alvita recalls the words of their mistress, that one can never escape from the consequences of their actions.
