Act III Scene II Summary

At Nicole's office, Inspector Bembe informs her that a wide range of accusations have been levelled against her and that he has come to arrest her and arraign her in court. Nicole, however., tells Bembe that she is not going anywhere since she has not done anything wrong. Inspector Bembe tells Nicole that it is criminal to disobey the Mayor after she admits she had not executed the Mayor's demand issued the previous day, but claims she has an obligation to do what is right, not to obey blindly.

Appearing to threaten Nicole, Inspector Bembe tells her that The Samaritan is threatening the lives of many powerful people who are then fighting back and they would destroy her life, cautioning her never to fight a losing battle. Nicole, however, informs Bembe that she has made a choice to do what is right, making it clear that she has no control over the App since the National Information and Communication Technology Corporation is in charge of it.

Realizing that Nicole is uncowed, Inspector Bembe levels crimes of murder and theft against her in a bid to blackmail her into caving into his demand. In fighting back, she cautious the Inspector not to try to fabricate anything against her, threatening him that such fabrications could make the day the darkest in his career.

Bembe orders his officers to handcuff Nicole, and although she resists, she is eventually overpowered. In a portrayal of ignorance and naivety, Bembe demands to know where Nicole has hidden The Samaritan, and she informs him that she has no such thing in her possession, but he can download it from the internet. The Inspector, hitting Nicole on the face with a bunch of papers, tells her to have the two students behind the App shut it off, or she does it herself. Nicole, however, informs Bembe that she cannot stop something that is neither hers nor in her custody, and that which is for the common public good. Angered by Nicole's stubbornness, Inspector Bembe orders his officers to arrest her amidst her plea for legal representation.
