The Summary of The Samaritan Acts and Scenes

Act I Scene III Summary

Mayor Mossi convenes another meeting a week after his emergency meeting, at the Madingo Golf Club - an exclusive members club - owned by Inspector Bembe, attended by the Inspector and Mr Harvester. Of great concern is The Samaritan crisis which the Mayor says had snowballed into a huge nightmare in a week's time. The App has disclosed numerous economic crimes committed by the three: Bembe is accused of countless cases of corruption, violation of human rights, drug peddling and extortion; Harvester is accused of many crimes of abuse of office; Mayor Mossi is accused of Municipal Capture, accusations that are all blamed on the opposition chief, Hon. Basdeo. The three also pick a bone with the mainstream media which they feel has been tarnishing their names by carrying damaging stories (pg. 40).

The greatest headache for the Mayor is the revelation through The Samaritan that Ramdaye, Seymour and Ted were mobilising Councillors and Aldermen to pass a vote of no confidence in him, fearing that they could send him to prison. The Mayor has, therefore, called the two his dependable allies so that they could agree on how to handle the unfolding crisis. After weighing up a couple of options including intimidating their perceived enemies and propagandizing against the accusations levelled at them, in press releases, the trio resolves that they must stop that next day's meeting, they must get alternative land for the University (to save Bembe of financial scratches), and they must put the Teacher and, the Judgė on line, (ironically) claiming he was protecting the public interest.
